Contents
Per 2 g/250 mg powd for inj Piperacillin Na 2 g, tazobactam Na 250 mg. Per 4 g/500 mg powd for inj Piperacillin Na 4 g, tazobactam Na 500 mg
Indications/Uses
For documented multidrug resistant gm -ve infections due to organisms proven or suspected to be susceptible to piperacillin-tazobactam except CNS infections; polymicrobial infections eg, mixed aerobic & anaerobic infections in which other agents have insufficient activity or are contraindicated due to toxic potential.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV/IM Adult Serious complicated infections 200-300 mg/kg IV daily in divided doses. Usual dose: 3-4 g IV every 4-6 hr. Mild or uncomplicated infections 100-125 mg/kg daily. Usual dose: 2 g IV every 6-8 hr or 4 g IV every 12 hr, or 2 g IM every 8-12 hr. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea 2 g single dose IM. Prophylaxis infection during surgery 2 g pre-op.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins or β-lactamase inhibitors.
Special Precautions
Bleeding, clotting time, superinfections, organ system function assessment, fever & rash in cystic fibrosis patients, patients w/ syphilis, neutropenia & leucopenia may occur in prolonged use, possibility of hypokalemia, pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash, leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, hypersensitivity reaction, headache, insomnia, hypotension, phlebitis, thrombophlebitis, constipation, dyspepsia, jaundice, stomatitis, increased blood creatine, pruritus, urticaria & fever.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ anticoagulants, probenecid, vecuronium, aminoglycosides, MTX.
