Primary HSV, genital herpes 200 mg, 5 times daily (usually every 4 hr) for 5-10 days. Recurrence 800 mg daily in 2-4 divided doses, can be reduced to 400-600 mg daily or increase to 1 g daily. Therapy should be interrupted every 6-12 mth. Chickenpox 800 mg, 4-5 times daily for 5-7 days. Herpes zoster 800 mg, 5 times daily for 7-10 days. Severely immunocompromised patientor w/ impaired absorption 400 mg, 5 times daily for 5 days. Prophylaxis 200-400 mg qid. Recurrence 200 mg, 5 times daily for 5 days, preferably initiated during prodromal period.
J05AB01 - aciclovir ; Belongs to the class of nucleosides and nucleotides excluding reverse transcriptase inhibitors. Used in the systemic treatment of viral infections.
