Prevention of PSEAdult 20-30 g (30-45 mL) tid-qid. Adjust dose every 1-2 days to produce 2-3 soft stools/day. Childn 26.7-60 g daily (40-90 mL daily) in divided doses. Adjust dose to produce 2-3 stools/day. Infant 1.7-6.7 g daily (2.5-10 mL daily) in divided doses. Adjust dose to produce 2-3 stools/day. Acute PSEAdult 20-30 g (30-45 mL) every 1 hr to induce rapid laxation. Reduce to 20-30 g (30-45 mL) tid-qid after laxation is achieved, titrate to produce 2-3 soft stools/day. Constipation Adult 10-20 g (15-30 mL) daily. May increase to 40 g (60 mL) daily, if necessary.
DM. Soln contains galactose & lactose. Possible inadequate response in patients receiving concomitant oral anti-infective agent. Monitor electrolyte imbalance periodically when used >6 mth or in patients predisposed to electrolyte abnormalities (eg, elderly). Measure serum electrolytes (eg, K, Cl, CO2) periodically in geriatric, debilitated patients who receive treatment for >6 mth. Hepatic disease may predispose patients to electrolyte imbalance. May develop hyponatremia & dehydration in infants.
Concomitant use w/ additional laxatives, & neomycin or other oral anti-infective agents. May inhibit desired decrease in fecal pH in colon w/ antacids.
