Indications/Uses
Constipation. Prep of diagnostic procedure, pre- & post-op treatment & for defecation-requiring conditions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Constipation Adult & childn >10 yr 1-2 tab at bedtime or 1 adult supp (10 mg) daily. Childn 4-10 yr 1 tab at bedtime daily. Prep of diagnostic procedures & pre-op Adult Tab Take 2-4 tab at night. Supp 1 adult supp in the morning of exam. Insert into the rectum pointed end 1st.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Swallow whole w/ an adequate amount of fluid. Do not take w/ milk or other products that reduce acidity of the upper GI tract (eg, antacids).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Ileus, intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal conditions including appendicitis, acute inflammatory bowel disease, severe abdominal pain associated w/ nausea & vomiting, & severe dehydration. Rare hereditary conditions incompatible to product's excipients that may cause hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Not to be used on continuous daily basis. Prolonged excessive use. Discontinue if suffering from fluid loss or dehydration. Not for wt loss. Haematochezia. Galactose intolerance (eg, galactosaemia), fructose intolerance. Contraindicated if patient has symptom of stomach ache or nausea & vomiting. Avoid potentially hazardous task eg, driving or operating machinery. Pregnancy. Childn ≤10 yr w/ chronic or persistent constipation.
Adverse Reactions
Anaphylactic reactions, angioedema, hypersensitivity; dehydration; dizziness, syncope; abdominal cramps, pain & discomfort, diarrhoea, nausea, haematochezia, vomiting, anorectal discomfort, colitis including ischaemic colitis.
Drug Interactions
May increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance w/ diuretics or adrenocorticosteroids. Electrolyte imbalance may lead to increased sensitivity to cardiac glycosides. May enhance GI side effects w/ other laxatives.
