Quadrivalent influenza vaccine (types A & B subvirion, inactivated)
Indications/Uses
Prevention of influenza disease caused by influenza types A & B viruses in childn ≥6 mth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Preferred sites are anterolateral aspect of the thigh in infants 6 mth through 11 mth, anterolateral aspect of the thigh (or the deltoid muscle if muscle mass is adequate) in persons 12 mth through 35 mth, or deltoid muscle in persons ≥36 mth. Childn ≥9 yr One 0.5-mL dose; 36 mth to 8 yr not previously vaccinated or unknown vaccination history Two 0.5 mL doses administer at least 4 wk apart, previously vaccinated One or two 0.5 mL doses (if 2 doses, administer at least 4 wk apart); 6-35 mth not previously vaccinated or unknown vaccination history 2 doses of either 0.25 mL or 0.5 mL administer at least 4 wk apart, previously vaccinated 1 or 2 doses of either 0.25 mL or 0.5 mL (if 2 doses, administer at least 4 wk apart).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to influenza vaccine or to previous dose of any influenza vaccine, egg protein.
Special Precautions
Not to be administered by IV, intradermal or SC. Possible anaphylactic reactions. Recurrence of Guillain-Barré syndrome w/in 6 wk of previous influenza vaccination. Immunocompromised persons. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Inj site pain or tenderness, erythema, swelling; irritability, abnormal crying, malaise, drowsiness, loss of appetite, myalgia, vomiting, fever (≥100.4°F); headache; cough, rhinorrhea. Thrombocytopenia, lymphadenopathy; anaphylaxis, other allergic/hypersensitivity reactions (eg, urticaria, angioedema); ocular hyperemia; Guillain-Barré syndrome, convulsions, febrile convulsions, myelitis, Bell's palsy, optic neuritis/neuropathy, brachial neuritis, syncope, dizziness, paresthesia; vasculitis, vasodilation/flushing; dyspnea, pharyngitis, rhinitis, wheezing, throat tightness; SJS; pruritus, asthenia/fatigue, pain in extremities, chest pain; vomiting.
