Carboplatin
Indications/Uses
Advanced ovarian cancer. In combination w/ other chemotherapeutics for small-cell lung cancer, NSCLC, head & neck & genitourinary cancer, particularly in testicular, bladder & cervical cancers.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV 360 mg/m2 via infusion over 15 min to 1 hr every 4 wk.
Contraindications
History of severe allergic reactions to carboplatin, cisplatin or other platinum-containing compd. Severe bone marrow depression, significant bleeding.
Special Precautions
Anaphylactic-like reactions. Not to be administered in Al-containing needles or IV administration sets. Severe bone marrow suppression resulting in infection &/or bleeding; anemia; emesis; peripheral neurotoxicity; vision loss w/ higher dose. Mutagenicity. Patients previously treated w/ cisplatin. Concomitant use w/ aminoglycosides. Women of childbearing should avoid becoming pregnant. Pregnancy. Discontinue in lactation. Elderly >65 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Bone marrow suppression, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, leucopenia, anaemia; vomiting, nausea; peripheral neuropathies, mild paresthesias; abnormal renal function test & LFTs; abnormal decrease of serum electrolyte values; rash, urticaria, erythema, pruritus; pain & asthenia.
