Ethambutol HCl
Indications/Uses
Pulmonary TB.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initial treatment: 15 mg/kg/day. Re-treatment: 25 mg/kg/day combined w/ other anti-TB drug for 2 mth. Then decrease to 15 mg/kg/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Optic neuritis.
Special Precautions
Severe renal impairment; gout, reduced visual acuity. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Retrobulbar neuritis w/ reduced visual acuity, central scotoma, green-red colour blindness. Allergic rashes. GI disturbances. Rarely, jaundice & peripheral neuritis. CNS effects. Hyperuricaemia.
Drug Interactions
May reduce efficacy of uricosurics, especially in the presence of INH & pyridoxine. Al-containing antacids.
