Levocetirizine diHCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of allergic conditions eg, seasonal, perennial & persistent allergic rhinitis; nasal symptoms including runny nose, itching, sneezing, & congestion; ocular symptoms including itching, redness, & watery eyes; chronic urticaria; skin symptoms including wheal, flare, itching, & other allergic dermatologic disorders.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥6 yr 1 tab once daily in the evening. Renal impairment in adult & childn ≥12 yr: Mild (CrCl 50-80 mL/min) ½ tab once daily, moderate (CrCl 30-50 mL/min) ½ tab once every other day, severe (CrCl 10-30 mL/min) ½ tab twice wkly (administer once every 3-4 days).
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine or cetirizine. Patients w/ ESRD (CrCl <10 mL/min) or undergoing hemodialysis. Renal impairment in childn 6 mth to 11 yr.
Special Precautions
Discontinue treatment if urinary retention occurs. Patients w/ predisposing factors of urinary retention (eg, spinal cord lesion, prostatic hyperplasia. Avoid concomitant use w/ alcohol or other CNS depressants. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy. Not recommended during lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Constipation, diarrhea, painful teething; asthenia, somnolence; nasopharyngitis, pharyngitis, xerostomia; fatigue, fever.
Drug Interactions
Increased AUC & t½ & decreased clearance of cetirizine w/ ritonavir. Decreased clearance of cetirizine w/ theophylline.
