Mometasone furoate
Indications/Uses
Relief of inflammatory & pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses eg, psoriasis & atopic dermatitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply thin film to affected skin area once daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to mometasone furoate or other corticosteroids.
Special Precautions
Discontinue treatment if skin irritation occurs; if favorable response does not occur promptly in dermatological infection. Not for oral, ophth or intravag use. Avoid use on face, groin or axillae; contact w/ eyes. Reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression w/ potential for glucocorticosteroid insufficiency after treatment w/drawal. Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia & glucosuria. Periodically evaluate for evidence of HPA axis suppression in patients applying topical steroid to large surface area or areas under occlusion. Institute appropriate antifungal or antibacterial agent in presence of dermatological infection. Refer to ophthalmologist for evaluation of possible visual disturbances causes including cataract, glaucoma or rare diseases (eg, central serous chorioretinopathy) in patient presenting w/ symptoms (eg, blurred vision or other visual disturbances). Pregnancy & lactation. Adrenal suppression especially in infants & childn. Ped patients (more susceptible to topical corticosteroid-induced HPA axis suppression & Cushing's syndrome).
Adverse Reactions
Pruritus, application site reactions, bacterial infections, folliculitis, furunculosis, acneiform eruptions, signs of skin atrophy, burning, irritation, dryness, hypertrichosis, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, skin maceration, secondary infection, striae & miliaria. Blurred vision.
