Acetylcysteine

Indications/Uses

Mucolytic agent in adjuvant treatment of abnormal, viscid or inspissated mucus secretion in acute & chronic bronchopulmonary disorder (eg, pneumonia, bronchitis, emphysema, tracheobronchitis, chronic asthmatic bronchitis, TB, bronchiectasis, primary amyloidosis of lung). Prevention or lessening hepatic injury caused by paracetamol overdosage.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Mucolytic effects Adult & childn >12 yr 1 tab daily after dinner. Paracetamol overdosage Initially 140 mg/kg followed by maintenance dose of 70 mg/kg every 4 hr for 17 doses.

Stomatitis, nausea, fever, rhinorrhea, drowsiness, clamminess, chest tightness, bronchoconstriction, bronchospasm, angioedema, rashes, pruritus, vomiting, other GI symptoms, tachycardia, hypotension, HTN.
