Quadrivalent influenza vaccine (split virion, inactivated)
Indications/Uses
Prevention of influenza disease caused by 2 influenza A virus subtypes & 2 influenza B virus subtypes, for active immunisation of adults, pregnant women, & childn from 6 mth; & passive protection of infants <6 mth & born to women vaccinated during pregnancy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/SC Adult, pregnant woman, childn 6 mth to 17 yr 0.5 mL as a single dose. Childn <9 yr & those who have not been previously vaccinated Administer 2nd dose of 0.5 mL after at least 4 wk. 
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to influenza vaccine, eggs (ovalbumin, chicken proteins), neomycin, formaldehyde or octoxinol-9. Illness w/ high or moderate temp or acute illness.
Special Precautions
Not to be administered intravascularly. Patients w/ immunodeficiency or taking medicines affecting the immune system; w/ bleeding problem & bruise easily. Fainting. False +ve blood test results may occur. Not recommended for childn <6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, myalgia, malaise, inj site pain, swelling, erythema, induration, shivering, vomiting, irritability, loss of appetite, fever, ecchymosis, drowsiness, unusual crying. Neuralgia, convulsions, neurological disorders, vasculitis.
Drug Interactions
May decrease immunological response w/ immunosuppressants eg, corticosteroids, cytotoxic drugs or RT.
