Overdosage
Symptoms: Betnovate-N cream applied topically to the skin may be absorbed in sufficient amounts to produce systemic effects. Acute overdose is very unlikely, but in the case of prolonged or incorrect use patients may develop symptoms of Cushing's syndrome (see Adverse Reactions).
In addition, large amounts of neomycin sulphate may be absorbed in the body (see Precautions).
Treatment: In the event of overdose, the medicinal product should be withdrawn gradually by reducing the frequency of application or by substituting Betnovate-N cream with a less potent corticosteroid to avoid the risk of glucocorticosteroid insufficiency. Due to the risk of acute adrenal insufficiency, this should be supervised closely by a doctor. Also, consideration should be given to significant systemic absorption of neomycin sulphate (see Precautions). If the doctor suspects such a situation, the use of Betnovate-N cream should be discontinued and the patient's condition should be assessed, including his/her hearing, renal and neuromuscular system functions.
Blood levels of neomycin sulphate also need to be determined. Haemodialysis may reduce the plasma concentration of neomycin sulphate.
Overdose treatment should be supervised by a doctor.
