Cetirizine diHCl 5 mg, pseudoephedrine HCl 120 mg
Indications/Uses
Treatment of symptoms of acute rhinitis w/ nasal congestion, rhinorrhoea, nasal &/or ocular pruritus & lacrimation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr 1 tab bd (morning & evening), should not be taken over a period exceeding 7 days. Renal & hepatic insufficiency 1 tab/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients, ephedrine & other piperazine. Patients receiving dihydroergotamine. During treatment w/ MAOI & also for 2 wk after its discontinuation. Severe cases of HTN or CAD. Renal insufficency, uncontrolled hyperthyroidism, severe arrhythmias, pheochromocytoma, glaucoma or urinary retention. History of stroke. Patients at high risk of developing haemorrhagic stroke. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended in childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
DM, hyperthyroidism, arterial HTN, tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmia, ischemic heart disease, liver or renal insufficiency, elderly patients. Conditions where anticholinergic activity is undesirable eg, prostatic hypertrophy or bladder outflow obstruction. Risk of haemorrhagic stroke; hypercoagulability. Hypertensive patients who are treated concomitantly w/ NSAIDs. Abuse of pseudoephedrine. Galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsoprtion. Posterior reversible encephalopathy/reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome. Intermediately pronounced or severe renal insufficiency. Has influence on the ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Nervousness, insomnia; vertigo, dizziness, headache, somnolence; tachycardia; dry mouth, nausea; asthenia.
Drug Interactions
Theophylline, ritonavir & high-fat meal alter clearance, exposure & plasma conc of cetirizine. Allergy tests inhibited by antihistamines. Concomitant use of sympathomimetic amines & MAOI can result in hypertensive crisis. Caution w/ methyldopa, guanethidine & reserpine. Linezolid w/ pseudoephedrine. Sympathomimetic drugs eg, decongestants (eg, phenylpropanolamine, phenylephrine, ephedrine), appetite suppressants, psychostimulants eg, amphetamines, antihypertensive drugs (reduction of antihypertensive effects), bromocriptine, pergolide, lisuride, cabergoline, ergotamine, TCAs, alcohol or other CNS depressants, cardiac glycosides eg, digoxin or digitoxin, NSAIDs. Antacids & proton pump inhibitors increase the rate of pseudoephedrine absorption; kaolin decreases it. Concurrent use w/ halogenated anaesth agents may provoke or worsen ventricular arrhythmia.
