Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Montelukast: Animal studies do not indicate harmful effects with respect to effects on pregnancy or embryonal/foetal development.
Limited data from available pregnancy databases do not suggest a causal relationship between Montelukast 10 mg and malformations (i.e. limb defects) that have been rarely reported in worldwide post marketing experience.
Montelukast 10 mg may be used during pregnancy only if it is considered to be clearly essential.
Cetirizine: For cetirizine very rare clinical data on exposed pregnancies are available. Animal studies do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects with respect to pregnancy, embryonal/foetal development, parturition or post-natal development. Caution should be exercised when prescribing to pregnant women.
Breastfeeding: Montelukast: It is unknown whether montelukast is excreted in human milk. Studies in rats have shown that montelukast is excreted in milk.
Montelukast 10 mg may be used in breast-feeding only if it is considered to be clearly essential.
Cetirizine: Cetirizine is excreted in human milk at concentrations representing 0.25 to 0.90 those measured in plasma, depending on sampling time after administration. Therefore, caution should be exercised when prescribing cetirizine to lactating women.
