Levocetirizine diHCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of seasonal (eg, hay fever) & perennial allergic rhinitis. Chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr 1 tab once daily at bedtime. Renal impairment CrCl 50-79 mL/min 1 tab once daily. 30-49 mL/min 1 tab every 2 days. <30 mL/min 1 tab every 3 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine or other piperazine derivatives. End-stage renal disease (CrCl <10 mL/min) or undergoing hemodialysis. Childn 6-11 yr w/ renal impairment. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ predisposing factors of urinary retention (eg, spinal cord lesion, prostatic hyperplasia). Concomitant use w/ alcohol or other CNS depressants. Epileptic patients & at risk of convulsions. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Renal impairment. Pregnancy. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, constipation, otitis media, vomiting, cough, pyrexia, epistaxis, asthenia, dry mouth, fatigue, headache, nasopharyngitis, pharyngitis, somnolence.
Drug Interactions
Possible additive effect w/ CNS depressants (eg, alcohol). Increased AUC, increased t½ & decreased clearance w/ ritonavir. Decreased clearance w/ theophylline.
