Amlodipine besilate
Indications/Uses
Management of HTN, angina pectoris & Prinzmetal angina.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN, stable & Prinzmetal angina Adult Initially 5 mg once daily, may be increased to 10 mg. Elderly, small frail individual & patient w/ hepatic impairment Initially 2.5 mg once daily. HTN Adolescent & childn 2.5-5 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to dihydropyridines. Aortic valve stenosis, chronic idiopathic constipation. Severe hypotension, liver impairment & CAD.
Special Precautions
Hepatic impairment. Lactation. Childn <6 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Flushing, headache disorders, dizziness & peripheral edema.
Drug Interactions
Aldesleukin, antipsychotics; diuretics, β-blockers, ACE inhibitors; quinidine; rifampicin; enzyme-inducing antiepileptic drugs eg, carbamazepine, phenobarb & phenytoin; enzyme inhibitors eg, cimetidine, erythromycin & HIV-PIs; other antihypertensive drugs.
