Amphotericin B
Indications/Uses
Fungal infections susceptible to amphotericin B eg, the one caused by Candida spp, Aspergillus spp, Cryptococcus neoformans, Mucor spp, Rhodotorula spp, Absidia spp, Blastomyces dermatitidis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Usual daily maintenance: 0.5-1 mg/kg daily or bid on alternate days. Max total dose: ≤1.5 mg/kg. Test dose: Initially 1 mg over 10-30 min.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Not to be used to treat non-invasive fungal infections eg, oral thrush, vag & oesophageal candidiasis in patients w/ normal neutrophil counts.
Adverse Reactions
Fever, chills, headache, nausea, vomiting; nephrotoxicity, anemia, infusion-related adverse events, phlebitis.
