Indications/Uses
BPH in men w/ enlarged prostate.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not crunch/chew.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to tamsulosin, other 5α-reductase inhibitors. History of postural hypotension & micturition syncope.
Special Precautions
History of sulfonamide allergy. Patients w/ orthostatic hypotension. Perform digital rectal exam when necessary & determination of PSA prior to treatment & regular intervals thereafter. Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS) during cataract & glaucoma surgery. Not to be used in combination w/ strong CYP3A4 inhibitors in patients known to be CYP2D6 poor metabolizers. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Severe renal (CrCl <10 mL/min) & hepatic dysfunction.
Adverse Reactions
Abnormal ejaculation; back & chest pain, cough; drowsiness; hypotension, syncope; asthenia; depression; diarrhea, constipation; dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting; infection; tooth disorder; libido decreased; insomnia, somnolence; rhinitis, erectile disorders (including priapism), sinusitis; blurred vision; dry mouth; GI disturbance; oedema; tachycardia, palpitation; angioedema.
Drug Interactions
Increased plasma levels w/ cimetidine. Possible hypotensive effects w/ other α1-adrenoceptor antagonists. Decreased plasma levels w/ furosemide.
