Contents
Per 750 mg inj Ampicillin Na 500 mg, sulbactam Na 250 mg. Per 1.5 g inj Ampicillin Na 1 g, sulbactam Na 500 mg
Indications/Uses
Upper & lower resp tract infections including sinusitis, otitis media & epiglottitis, bacterial pneumonia, UTI & pyelonephritis; intraabdominal infections including peritonitis, cholecystitis, endometriosis & pelvic cellulitis; bacterial septicemia; skin; soft tissue, bone & joint infections & gonococcal infections. Reduction of the incidence of post-op wound infections in patients undergoing abdominal or pelvic surgery. Prophylaxis to reduce post-op sepsis in termination of pregnancy & caesarian section.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1.5-12 g/day in divided doses. Mild infection 1.5-3 g. Moderate infection Up to 6 g. Severe infection Up to 12 g. Neonate 150 mg/kg/day.
Contraindications
History of allergic reactions to any penicillins.
Special Precautions
Serious & occasionally fatal hypersensitivity reactions. Discontinue if allergic reactions or superinfection occurs. Periodically check for organ system (including renal, hepatic, & hematopoietic systems) dysfunction during extended therapy. Pregnancy & lactation. Neonates, especially when premature & infants.
Adverse Reactions
Inj site pain (IM route). Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; rash, itching & other skin reactions; anemia, thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia & leukopenia; transient elevation of alanine & aspartic transaminases.
