Amikacin sulfate
Indications/Uses
Short-term treatment of serious infection. Bacterial septicemia. Resp tract, bone, joint, CNS & skin & soft tissue, intra-abdominal infections, burn, post-op, UTI.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn 15 mg/kg daily in equal doses 8-12 hrly IM. Life-threatening infection Max: 500 mg 8 hrly. Uncomplicated UTI 7.5 mg/kg daily in 2 divided doses. Neonates Loading dose: 10 mg/kg followed by 15 mg/kg daily in 2 divided doses.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Avoid concurrent use w/ other ototoxic or nephrotoxic agents. Kidney function test prior to therapy. Contains Na metabisulfite that may cause anaphylaxis. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Auditory, vestibular & renal toxicity & neuromuscular blockade. Skin rash, fever, headache, paresthesia, tremor, nausea & vomiting; eosinophilia, arthralgia, anemia & hypotension.
