Clotrimazole
Indications/Uses
All dermatomycoses due to moulds, other fungi eg, Trichophyton spp); yeasts (Candida spp) including ringworm (tinea) infections (eg, athlete's foot), paronychia, pityriasis versicolor, erythrasma & intertrigo). Skin diseases showing secondary infection eg, Candidal nappy rash, vulvitis & balanitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply thinly & evenly to the affected area bid-tid & rub gently. Dermatophyte infection Duration of treatment: 1 mth. Candidal infection Duration of treatment: 2 wk.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Do not use to treat nail & scalp infections.
Special Precautions
Contains cetostearyl alcohol which may cause local skin reactions (eg, contact dermatitis). Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Syncope, hypotension, dyspnoea, urticaria; blister, discomfort/pain, oedema, erythema, irritation, peeling/exfoliation, pruritus, rash, stinging/burning.
Drug Interactions
Reduced effectiveness of latex contraceptives.
