Indications/Uses
Maintenance therapy in patients suffering from asthma & COPD.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 400 mg once daily preferably as single dose in the evening. In certain cases, 400 mg bid is recommended on the basis of the clinical response. Doses as high as 1,200 mg daily (400 mg tid) may also be given.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Acute MI, hypotension. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ HTN; heart, liver & renal disease; hypoxemia, hyperthyroidism, chronic right ventricular failure, CHF (prolonged plasma levels following discontinuation), history of peptic ulcer; COPD or concomitant infections; taking certain other drugs (eg, erythromycin, troleandomycin, lincomycin & other antibiotics of the same group, allopurinol, cimetidine, propranolol & anti-flu vaccine). Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, cephalalgia (headache), irritability, insomnia, tachycardia, extrasystole, tachypnoea.
Drug Interactions
Do not administer w/ other xanthine derivatives. Toxic synergism w/ ephedrine. Hepatic clearance may be decreased by erythromycin, troleandomycin, lincomycin, clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, ranitidine, propranolol & anti-flu vaccine.
