Short-term treatment of GERD w/ erosive esophagitis in adults & ped 1 mth-17 yr, inclusively as alternative to oral therapy when oral esomeprazole is not possible or appropriate.
Adult 20 or 40 mg once daily by IV inj (no <3 min) or IV infusion (10-30 min) for 10 days. Childn 1-17 yr, ≥55 kg 20 mg infused over 10-30 min, <55 kg 10 mg infused over 10-30 min. Infant 1 mth to <1 yr 0.5 mg/kg infused over 10-30 min.
Does not preclude presence of gastric malignancy. Atrophic gastritis; hypomagnesemia. Increased risk for osteoporosis-related fractures of the hip, wrist or spine. Monitor Mg levels prior to therapy periodically. Concomitant use w/ digoxin & diuretics. Pregnancy. Do not use during lactation.
