Alfuzosin HCl

Treatment of signs & symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). As adjunct therapy w/ urethral catheterization for acute urinary retention related to BPH & management following catheter removal.

BPH & acute urinary retention 10 mg once daily.

Should be taken with food: Take immediately after the same meal each day. Swallow whole, do not chew/crush/divide.

Avoid situations where injury could result should syncope occur. Patients w/ symptomatic hypotension or patients who have had a hypotensive response to other medications; congenital or acquired QT prolongation. Discontinue treatment if symptoms of angina pectoris appear or worsen. Evaluate patients prior to starting treatment to rule out the presence of prostatic carcinoma. Intraop floppy iris syndrome has been reported. Avoid hazardous tasks including driving & operating machinery as may potentially cause vertigo, dizziness & asthenia. Hepatic & renal insufficiency.

Dizziness/faintness, headache, vertigo, malaise, drowsiness; upper resp tract infection, bronchitis, sinusitis, rhinitis, laryngitis, pharyngitis, flu-like symptoms; abdominal pain, dyspepsia, constipation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dry mouth; pain, asthenia, back pain, neuralgia, neuropathy, lumbar disc lesion, joint disorders including arthritis, arthrosis, arthropathy, arthralgia, bursitis; hepatocellular & cholestatic liver injury; impotence, priapism, ejaculation disorders; rash, urticaria, angioedema, pruritus; tachycardia, palpitations, chest pain, angina pectoris in patients w/ preexisting CAD, & other symptoms associated w/ orthostasis eg, hypotension or postural hypotension & syncope; isolated spontaneous cases of QT interval prolongation, ventricular arrhythmias, including torsades de pointes, ventricular tachycardia & fibrillation; IFIS during cataract surgery in some patients on or previously treated w/ α₁-blockers, abnormal vision; fatigue, edema, flushing, bite, inflicted injury, pain.

Increased risk of hypotension/postural hypotension & syncope w/ antihypertensives or nitrates.
