Action
Pharmacology: Glucosamine is an amino monosaccharide, naturally present in the body and especially in the articular cartilages. Glucosamine is a preferred substrate for the biosynthesis of glucosminoglycans. It stimulates the biosynthesis of proteoglycans. It restores damaged chondrocytes and, as sulfate is used in the therapy of arthrosis. This rebuilds the damaged articular cartilage and restores articular function. Oral administration is appropriate since glucosamine sulfate is well absorbed and does not irritate the gastrointestinal tract. Glucosamine therapy was associated with a gradual and progressive reduction of articular pain and tenderness and improvement in the range of motion. Beneficial pharmacologic effects reported for glucosamine include anti arthritic and anti inflammatory properties and an ability to stimulate proteoglycan synthesis through chondrocytes activation. Glucosamine sulfate have been given in the treatment of rheumatic disorders including osteoarthritis. Its availability in oral powder form makes it a convenient treatment for out-patients particularly in a long term therapy. Glucosamine powder also contain as inactive ingredients: Dextrates, sorbitol, silicon dioxide orange powder.
