Indications/Uses
Prevention & therapy of damages due to faulty or deficient protein metabolism in chronic renal insufficiency in connection w/ limited protein in food of ≤40 g/day (for adults) ie, generally in patients w/ GFR <25 mL/min.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hypercalcemia, disturbed amino acid metabolism.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ phenylketonuria. Contains phenylalanine. Monitor serum Ca level regularly. Ensure sufficient supply w/ cal.
Drug Interactions
Increased serum Ca level w/ medicaments containing Ca eg, acetolyte. Reduction of serum phosphate. Drugs that form sparingly soluble compd w/ Ca eg, tetracyclines, ciprofloxacin & norfloxacin, Fe-, fluoride- & estramustin-containing drugs. Increased susceptibility & risk of arrhythmia w/ heart/cardiac-active glycosides.
