Omeprazole

20 mg cap: Short-term treatment & symptomatic relief of heartburn that occurs ≥2 days/wk. 40 mg cap: Short-term & maintenance treatment of duodenal & gastric ulcer, pathological hypersecretory conditions (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, multiple endocrine adenomas & systemic mastocytis); GERD, NSAID-associated gastric & duodenal ulcers or erosions, acid-related dyspepsia, erosive esophagitis, H. pylori eradication regimens in PUD. Prophylaxis of acid aspiration during general anesth. Powd for inj: Short term treatment duodenal or gastric ulcer, ulcerative esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, GERD, NSAID-induced GI complications when oral medication is not feasible. Prophylaxis of acid reflux.

Adult 20 mg once daily for 14 days. Gastric ulcer 40 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Pathological hypersecretory conditions (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, multiple endocrine adenomas & systemic mastocytis) Initially 60 mg once daily. Prophylaxis of acid aspiration 40 mg on the evening before surgery followed by 40 mg 2-6 hr prior to surgery. H. pylori eradication in PUD Dual therapy regimen: Omeprazole 40 mg once daily in the morning + clarithromycin for 14 days. Triple therapy regimens: Omeprazole 40 mg once daily + amoxicillin + metronidazole for 7 days or omeprazole 20 mg bid + clarithromycin + amoxicillin for 10 days or omeprazole 20 mg bid + clarithromycin + metronidazole (or tinidazole) for 7 days. IV 40 mg once daily by slow IV inj (not <2.5 min) at a rate of no >4 mL/min.

Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 30 min-1 hr before breakfast. Swallow whole, do not split/crush/chew. For patients w/ swallowing difficulty, cap may be opened & pellets mixed w/ a slightly acidic fluid (e.g. applesauce, fruit juice, yoghurt, non-carbonated water). Take mixt immediately & avoid chewing/crushing pellets. Do not store mixt for future use.

Heartburn >3 mth, w/ lightheadedness, sweating or dizziness. Chest or shoulder pain, frequent chest pain & wheezing related to heartburn. Symptomatic response to therapy does not rule out presence of gastric malignancy. Use of acid-suppressants.

Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flatulence, acid regurgitation; rash, severe generalized reactions (eg, TEN), SJS, erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis, lichenoid eruptions; skin inflammation, photosensitivity, urticaria, purpura &/or petechiae, bullous eruption, angioedema, pruritus, alopecia, dry skin, hyperhydrosis; URTI, cough; atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, bradycardia, palpitation, peripheral edema; blurred vision, ocular irritation, dry eye syndrome, optic atrophy, anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, optic neuritis, double vision; fever, tinnitus, wt gain, acute gout, hypophosphatemia, hypocalcemia, fluid overload, hyperglycemia, hypomagnesemia, hypokalemia, sweating, hyponatremia, otitis media; edema, gynecomastia, oral candidiasis, candidal infection.
