Indications/Uses
Primary hypercholesterolemia (type IIa), mixed dyslipidemia (type IIb), or HoFH in patients who have not responded adequately to diet & other appropriate measures.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HoFH Starting dose: 20 mg. Max daily dose: 40 mg. Mixed dyslipidemia (Fredrickson types IIa & IIb) Dose range: 5-40 mg. Starting dose: 10 mg. Patient requiring less aggressive LDL-C reductions or who have predisposing factors for myopathy Initial therapy: 5 mg. Patient w/ marked hypercholesterolemia (LDL-C >190 mg/dL) & aggressive lipid targets Starting dose: 20 mg. Patient who have not achieved the LDL-C goal 40 mg. Hypertriglyceridemia/Fredrickson type IV Dose range: 5-40 mg. Starting dose: 10 mg. All doses to be taken as single dose anytime of the day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Renal & hepatic disease; myopathy. Concomitant use w/ cyclosporine. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Perform LFT before or 12 wk of therapy. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, dizziness, constipation, nausea, abdominal pain, myalgia, asthenia.
Drug Interactions
Increased or altered INR w/ warfarin & coumarin. Antacids.
