Per 5 mL Salbutamol sulfate 1 mg, guaifenesin 50 mg
Indications/Uses
Used to increase the vol & reduce the viscosity of tenacious sputum & expectorant for productive cough; bronchodilator in the management of reversible airways obstruction, as in asthma & in some patients w/ COPD.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 10-20 mL. Childn 6-12 yr 10 mL, 2-6 yr 5-10 mL. To be taken bid-tid.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Salbutamol: Concomitant use w/ other sympathomimetics, propranolol, corticosteroids, diuretics, or xanthines. Patients w/ thyroid disorders, myocardial insufficiency, arrhythmias, HTN, susceptibility to QT-interval prolongation & DM. Guaifenesin: Patients who may develop persistent GI upset. 1st & 2nd trimesters of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Salbutamol: Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Salbutamol: Hand tremors, nervous tension, headache, increased heart rate, palpitations, tachycardia, peripheral vasodilation; hypokalemia (in large doses); hypersensitivity including paradoxical bronchospasm, angioedema, urticaria, hypotension & collapse. Guaifenesin: Nausea, vomiting & other mild GI discomfort.
Drug Interactions
Salbutamol: Propranolol. May increase risk of hypokalemia w/ corticosteroids, diuretics & xanthines.
