FC tablet: Each tablet contains Albendazole 200 mg.
Oral suspension: Each 5 ml contains Albendazole 200 mg.
PHARMACOKINETICS: Absorption: Oral absorption is poor (<5%); may increase up to 4-5 times when administered with a fatty meal.
Distribution: Well distributed inside hydatid cysts; excellent CSF (Cerebrospinal Fluid) concentrations.
Protein binding: 70%.
Metabolism: Extensive first-pass metabolism; metabolic pathways include rapid sulfoxidation (major), hydrolysis, and oxidation.
Half-life: 8 - 12 hours.
Time to peak serum concentration: 2 - 2.4 hours.
Elimination: Active and inactive metabolites excreted in urine.
ALBEN (Albendazole) exhibits vermicidal, ovicidal and larvacidal which is effective in the treatment of Roundworm (Ascaris lumbricoides), Whipworm (Trichuris trichiura), Pinworm or Threadworm (Enterobius vermicularis), Hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus) and Strongyloides stercoralis, Taenia solium and Taenia saginata and Opisthorchis viverrini.

In case of overdosage, symptomatic therapy (eg. activated charcoal, gastric lavage) and general supportive measures are recommended.
Albendazole should not be administered during pregnancy or in women thought to be pregnant, children under 2 years and patients hypersensitive to albendazole or any its components.
Discontinue therapy if LFT (Liver Function Test) elevations are significant: may restart treatment when decreased to pretreatment values.
Use in Pregnancy: Becoming pregnant within 1 month following therapy is not advised.
Albendazole has been shown to be teratogenic in laboratory animals and should not be used during pregnancy. Albendazole is excreted in animal milk but not known whether it is excreted human milk; therefore, it should not be used in breast-feeding women.
Central nervous system: Dizziness, vertigo, fever, headache, increased intracranial pressure.
Dermatologic: Alopecia, rash, urticaria.
Gastrointestinal: Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting.
Hematologic: Leukopenia, granulocytopenia, agranulocytopenia, pancytopenia.
Hepatic: Increased LFTs.
Miscellaneous: Allergic reactions.
Cimetidine, Dexamethasone and praziquantel may increase plasma levels of albendazole.
Albendazole may decrease plasma level of theophylline.
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep container tightly closed. Protect from light, heat and moisture.
