Indications/Uses
1st-line treatment of HTN & MI associated w/ stable angina pectoris.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 5 mg once daily; may be increased to max of 10 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to amlodipine or dihydropyridines.
Special Precautions
Increased frequency & duration of chest pain w/ abrupt w/drawal. Hepatic or renal impairment. Not to be administered during pregnancy & lactation. Hypotensive & constipation effects in elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Peripheral oedema & flushing. Occasionally, muscle cramps, frequency of micturition/nocturia, coughing, dyspnea, impotence, visual disturbances, peripheral neuropathy, headache, dizziness, asthenia, nausea, tinnitus, taste perversion, skin discoloration, alopecia, hypotension, syncope & palpitations. Amlodac 5 mg: Pulmonary oedema, fatigue, somnolence, nausea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia.
Drug Interactions
Inhibited metabolism w/ azole antifungals eg, itraconazole, ketoconazole, fluconazole; erythromycin; CYP3A4 inhibitors. Increased serum levels w/ grapefruit juice. Additive BP lowering effects w/ sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil.
