Loratadine
Indications/Uses
Relief of symptoms associated w/ allergic rhinitis eg, sneezing, nasal discharge, rhinorrhea & itching, as well as ocular itching & burning; signs & symptoms of chronic urticaria & other allergic dermatological disorders.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr 10 mg once daily. Childn 2-12 yr, weighing >30 kg 10 mg once daily, ≤30 kg 5 mg once daily. Patients w/ severe liver impairment Initially 5 mg once daily or 10 mg every other day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Patients w/ severe hepatic impairment. Discontinue therapy 48 hr prior to skin testing procedures. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Fatigue, headache, somnolence, dry mouth, GI disorders eg, nausea, gastritis & rash.
Drug Interactions
Increased plasma conc w/ ketoconazole, erythromycin or cimetidine. Other drugs known to inhibit hepatic metabolism.
