Glucosamine sulfate
Indications/Uses
Cap: Symptomatic relief of primary knee OA. Powd for oral soln: Relief from primary OA.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap Adult 1 cap tid or 3 cap once daily for at least 6 consecutive wk. Powd for oral soln 1 sachet once daily for at least 6 wk.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Powd for oral soln: Dissolve in a glass of water & drink.
Contraindications
Allergy to seafood/shellfish (eg, shrimp, crab) or iodine.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ diabetes, asthma, HTN, peptic ulcer; on restricted Na diet eg, w/ heart failure or kidney disease. Monitor blood sugar & lipid levels periodically during prolonged use. Renal impairment. Avoid use in women of childbearing potential. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, stomach upset, abdominal discomfort, distention & cramps, constipation, diarrhea, dyspepsia, excessive gas; drowsiness, headache; skin rash or pruritus & skin reaction.
Drug Interactions
Cap: May reduce effectiveness of antidiabetics; etoposide & doxorubicin. May increase anticoagulant or antiplatelet effect. May increase risk of adverse effect of diuretics.
