Glucosamine sulfate
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Recommended treatment duration: ≥3 mth, may be repeated at 2-mth interval. Cap Adult 500 mg tid for at least 6 wk. Powd for oral soln Adult 1 sachet (1,500 mg) once daily for at least 6 wk.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 15 min before meal. Powd for oral soln: Dissolve 1 sachet in a glass of water.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Patients w/ shellfish allergy, diabetes & asthma; on limited Na intake. Regularly monitor blood sugar & BP during prolonged use. Control wt or have physical therapy. May coadminister w/ NSAIDs in patients w/ severe pain during initial time. Renal or hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances eg, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, anorexia & dyspepsia.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced adsorption of tetracycline. Decreased adsorption of penicillin or chloramphenicol. May reduce effectiveness of antidiabetics (eg, acarbose, acetohexamide, chlorpropamide, glimepiride, glipizide, glyburide, metformin, miglitol, pioglitazone, repaglinide, rosiglitazone, tolazamide, tolbutamide, troglitazone); doxorubicin; etoposide; teniposide. May elevate serum INR values & potentiates anticoagulant effects of warfarin. Synergistic effects w/ steroidal agents or NSAIDs.
