Indications/Uses
Na deficiency in elderly w/ salt-losing conditions or in patients w/ diuretic-induced Na loss.
Dosage/Direction for Use
300-mg tab Adult 300-600 mg or 1-2 tab bid to tid. 600-mg tab Adult 600 mg or 1 tab bid to tid.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hypertonic uterus, hypernatremia, fluid retention.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ HTN, heart failure, peripheral or pulmonary oedema, impaired renal function, pre-eclampsia or other conditions associated w/ Na retention. Administer w/ adequate water to prevent hypernatremia. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Electrolyte imbalance. Hypernatremia. Thirst, reduced salivation & lacrimation, fever, sweating, tachycardia, HTN or hypotension, headache, dizziness, restlessness, irritability, weakness, & muscular twitching & rigidity. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea & abdominal cramps. Loss of bicarbonate w/ an acidifying effect.
