Contents
Retinol 3,500 IU, cholecalciferol 220 IU, α-tocopherol 11.2 IU, ascorbic acid 125 mg, thiamine 3.51 mg, riboflavin 4.14 mg, pyridoxine 4.53 mg, cyanocobalamin 6 mcg, folic acid 414 mcg, pantothenic acid 17.25 mg, biotin 69 mcg, nicotinamide 46 mg
Indications/Uses
Daily vit requirements in patients where PO is either contraindicated, impossible or insufficient (eg, due to malnutrition, GI malabsorption).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >11 yr 1 vial daily by slow IV inj for at least 10 min from soln dissolved in 5 mL water for inj, 0.9% NaCl infusion soln, or 5% dextrose infusion soln; or by infusion in either 0.9% NaCl infusion soln or 5% dextrose infusion soln.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity or pre-existing hypervitaminosis.
Special Precautions
Anaphylactic reactions may occur. Mild allergic reactions eg, sneezing or mild asthma may give rise to anaphylactic shock. Not to be given as a direct, undiluted IV inj. Concomitant use of vit A from other sources. Moderate rise in SGPT transaminases in some patients w/ active inflammatory enterocolitis. Does not contain vit K. Calculate daily vit requirements to avoid overdose & toxic effects. Monitor vit A, vit C, vit D & folic acid blood levels in prolonged use. Carefully monitor lipid soluble vit level in patients w/ impaired kidney function. Not to be used in pregnancy & breastfeeding.
Adverse Reactions
Drug Interactions
Carefully monitor drugs known to be influenced by folic acid eg, phenytoin. Folic acid may obscure pernicious anemia. Pyridoxine can reduce the effect of l-dopa. Folic acid is unstable in the presence of Ca salts eg, Ca gluconate. May react w/ vit K bisulfite. Direct addition to IV fat emulsions is not recommended.
