Ibuprofen injection should not be given to neonates with life-threatening infection, with significant renal impairment, or with known or suspected necrotizing enterocolitis. Infants who are bleeding (especially gastrointestinal bleeding or intracranial haemorrhage) or who have thrombocytopenia or coagulation defects should also not be given parenteral ibuprofen, and those given it should be monitored during treatment for signs of bleeding. Renal function should also be monitored and if anuria or marked oliguria is evident at the time of a scheduled second or third dose, it should be delayed until renal function has returned to normal.
