Healthy volunteers received 11.2 g of acetylcysteine daily for three months without any serious undesirable effects. Oral doses of up to 500 mg of acetylcysteine/kg body weight were tolerated without any symptoms of poisoning.
Symptoms: Overdose may lead to gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Treatment: There is no specific antidote for acetylcysteine and treatment is symptomatic.
