Vit B1 200 mg, vit B6 200 mg, vit B12 5,000 mcg, vit E 100 IU
Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of vit B1, B6 & B12 deficiencies. Prevention of INH-induced peripheral neuropathy. Vit B12 replacement in patients w/ pernicious anemia, & for food-cobalamin malabsorption. Prevention of Wernicke encephalopathy in alcohol dependent individuals.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult including elderly & childn ≥12 yr 1-2 tab tid.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to B vit, or vit E.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ Parkinson's disease taking levodopa. Very large doses of vit B6 may suppress lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions (rarely).
Drug Interactions
Vit B6: May increase pyridoxine level which could induce sensory neuropathy w/ nitrofurantoin. High daily doses can decrease phenytoin & phenobarb serum conc. Reduced effectiveness of altretamine (hexamethylmelamine). Reduced or abolished effect of levodopa through increased peripheral metabolism by dopa-decarboxylase. May reduce plasma levels w/ INH. Vit B12: Reduced intestinal absorption w/ colchicine, aspirin, PPIs & H2-receptor antagonists. May induce deficiency w/ prolonged metformin use. May lower serum levels most likely due to redistribution rather than depletion w/ contraceptive use. Vit E: May enhance effect of warfarin & aspirin. May decrease oral cyclosporine levels. May reduce plasma conc w/ statin. May reduce intestinal absorption by inhibition of GI lipase w/ orlistat.
