Clonidine HCl
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Mild to moderate HTN 75-150 mcg bid. Severe HTN 300 mcg, repeated up to tid (900 mcg).
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Patients w/ cerebrovascular disease, ischaemic heart disease including MI, renal impairment, occlusive peripheral vascular disorders eg, Raynaud's disease or those w/ a history of depression. Closely monitor patients for systemic effects after epidural use. Should be given slowly to avoid possible transient pressor effects. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness & headache. Constipation. Depression, anxiety, fatigue, nausea, anorexia, parotid pain, sleep disturbances, vivid dreams, impotence & loss of libido, urinary retention or incontinence, orthostatic hypotension & dry, itching, or burning sensations in the eye. Fluid retention.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced hypertensive effect by diuretics, other antihypertensives & drugs that cause hypotension. β-blockers. May antagonize hypotensive effect w/ TCA. May enhanced sedative effect by CNS depressants.
