Contents
Dextromethorphan hydrobromide, guaifenesin (glyceryl guaiacolate), terpin hydrate.
Description
Each tablet contains Dextromethorphan hydrobromide 20 mg, guaifenesin (glyceryl guaiacolate 50 mg and terpin hydrate 85 mg.
Indications/Uses
For expectorant and relief of cough caused by common cold and chronic bronchitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult dose, one tablet 3 times a day or prescribed by physician.
Method of Administration: Oral.
Overdosage
Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, nystagmus, ataxia, shallow respiration, urinary retention, stupor, toxic psychosis and coma, but no fatalities have been reported.
Treatment: Symptomatic and supportive measures, gastric lavage, assisted respiration, vital sign monitoring, parenteral administration of naloxone and oral administration of activated charcoal.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, terpin hydrate or any component of the formulation.
Special Precautions
D-COATE should not be used for persistent or chronic cough such as with smoking, emphysema, asthma or cough accompanied by excessive secretions, unless directed by physician.
D-COATE should not be used in patients who received MAOI or within 2 weeks after discontinuing MAOI.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
D-COATE should not be given during pregnancy unless there are compelling medical reasons. Excretion in breast milk is unknown, please consult the doctor before using D-COATE.
Adverse Reactions
Mild drowsiness, headache, rash, nausea, vomiting, confusion, constipation, GI disturbance, stomach pain, mild dizziness, urticaria.
Drug Interactions
Central nervous system (CNS) depression-producing medications: concurrent use may potentiate the CNS depressant effects.
Monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors: including furazolidone, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline and tranylcypromine; concurrent use with dextromethorphan and also use of MAOI within 2-3 weeks of dextromethorphan may cause adrenergic crisis, collapse, coma, dizziness, excitation hypertension, hyperpyrexia, intracerebral bleeding, lethargy, nausea, psychotic behavior, spasm and tremors.
Amiodarone, Fluoxetine, Quinidine: concurrent use may result increased dextromethorphan serum concentration; high concentrations of dextromethorphan have been associated with increased incidence of side effects.
Sibutramine: concurrent use may result increased serotonergic effects.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from heat and moisture.
