Disturbances of consciousness due to head injury or brain surgeryAdult 100-500 mg once-bid IV infusion, inj or IM inj. Disturbances of consciousness in acute stage of cerebral infarction 1 g once daily for 2 wk. IVHemiplegia after cerebral apoplexy 1 g or 0.25 g once daily for 4 wk & another 4 wk for improvement. Parkinson's disease 0.5 g once daily for 3-4 wk or 0.25-0.5 g 2-3 times/wk in combination w/ an anticholinergic. Pancreatitis 1g for 2 wk in combination w/ a PI.
Hypersensitivity to Na metabisulfite. Use of antihemorrhagics or brain pressure-decreasing agents for acute, severe case of conscious progressive disturbance by cephalopathy &/or cerebral operation is recommended. Therapy should be started w/in 2 wk after apoplectic stroke in patients w/ acute cerebral infarction. Pregnancy. Elderly.
