Aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, simethicone.
Each 15 mL (1 tablespoonful) contains Aluminum Hydroxide Gel equivalent to Aluminum Hydroxide 918 mg, Magnesium Hydroxide 300 mg, Simethicone 60 mg.
PHARMACOLOGY: BELCID SUSPENSION neutralize gastric acidity, resulting in an increase in the pH of the stomach and duodenal bulb. Additionally, by increasing the gastric pH above 4, they inhibit the proteolytic activity of pepsin.
Aluminum hydroxide is solubilized in the stomach and reacts with hydrochloric acid to form aluminum chloride and water. About 17-30% of the aluminum chloride formed is absorbed and is rapidly excreted by the kidneys in patients with normal renal function. Aluminum hydroxide also combines with dietary phosphate in the intestine forming insoluble, nonabsorbable aluminum phosphate which is excreted in the feces.
Magnesium hydroxide rapidly reacts with hydrochloric acid to form magnesium chloride and water. About 15-30% of the magnesium chloride formed is absorbed and is rapidly excreted By the kidneys in patients with normal renal function.
Simethicone antifoams spread on the surface of aqueous liquids, forming a film of low surface tension and thus causing collapse of foam bubbles. It allows mucus-surrounded gas bubbles in the GI tract to coalesce and be expelled.
BELCID SUSPENSION is used as antacid, antiflatulence and demulcent in gastric hyperacidity, heartburn, and used in the symptomatic relief of peptic and duodenal ulcer pains.
Relieve the symptoms of: Heartburn, acid reflux and hard to swallow due to Gastroesophageal reflux.
Acid indigestion, sore stomach and dyspepsia.
15 mL (1 tablespoonful) 4 times daily, one hour after meals and at bedtime or as directed by physician.
Prolonged use of aluminum-containing antacids may result in hypophosphatemia in normophosphatemic patients if phosphate intake is not adequate. Hypophosphatemia can lead to anorexia, malaise, muscle weakness, and osteomalacia.
Use aluminum hydroxide with care in patients who have recently suffered massive upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
No information on the use of BELCID SUSPENSION in pregnant and breastfeeding women is available.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a physician before using BELCID SUSPENSION.
Diarrhea; hypermagnesemia in renal failure patients; constipation; osteomalacia and hypophosphatemia; accumulation of aluminum in serum, bone and CNS (aluminum accumulation may be neurotoxic).
BELCID SUSPENSION may interfere with drugs by: Increasing the gastric pH altering disintegration, dissolution, solubility, ionization and gastric emptying time. Absorption of weakly acidic drugs is decreased, possibly resulting in decreased drug effect (e.g. digoxin, phenytoin, chlorpromazine, isoniazid, chlordiazepoxide, indomethacin, iron salts). Doses of these drugs should be spaced as far apart as possible from doses of BELCID SUSPENSION. Weakly basic drug absorption is increased possibly resulting in toxicity or adverse reactions (e.g. pseudoephedrine, levodopa).
Adsorbing or binding drugs to their surface resulting in decreased bioavailability (e.g. tetracycline); therefore, doses of tetracyclines should be spaced 1-2 hours from doses of BELCID SUSPENSION.
Increasing urinary pH affecting the rate of drug elimination. The effect is inhibition of the excretion of basic drugs (e.g. quinidine, amphetamines) and enhanced excretion of acidic drugs (e.g. salicylates).
Store at temperature not exceeding 30°C. Avoid freezing.
A02AF02 - ordinary salt combinations and antiflatulents ; Belongs to the class of antacids with antiflatulents.
